Anyway- on top of that my body is not liking the turning 40- I have used and abused it- with my lack of exercise and my diabetes and such- I am having problems getting up from places. I used to be able to sit on the floor with no problem, not anymore. I have horrible leg pain at night that sometimes wakes me from my sleep- I am starting to feel tingling up and down my leg at various times during the day. I got a real problem here… my blood pressure is up- I had to go in for blood tests last week and I get my results Monday- not looking forward to those. I know I am in real trouble.

Anyway- Here are my plans after R.A.C.E.

#1- Spend more time with Hubby and Son.

#2- Get back to reading – Scriptures- fiction- romance novels- whatever I can get my hands on!

#3- Taking my insulin when I am supposed to! Checking my glucose levels as well

#4- Get back into digital scrapbooking and posting to DS sites.

#5- Exercise- when I am able-not sure how this leg pain and stuff will affect that.

#6- Go to bed earlier than 11:30pm

#7- Clean my desk off at work at least twice a week. (I hear my office mates gasping!)

#8- After January rolls around- begin to seriously concentrate on the NIC Interpreter Interview/Performance Exam.

That’s it! 8 things- I think that is enough- don’t you?

Well- if you need something to do- next Friday- come to R.A.C.E.!!!!

Oh- Nathan did awesome bowling!!! He scored a 59 his first game and 85 the second- NO BUMPERS!!! I am so proud of him. We also got word that he is going to be starting in a new reading group- he passed Level 2 on assessments, so we got new sight words for him- there were 150 words and he missed 5 out of those the first time we went through them.  I am so very proud of him and his love for reading- I love to read and am thrilled that he has the desire to do that as well.

Went scrapbooking Friday night- was home before midnight- had a new deaf girl come- it was just me and two deaf ladies there. I didn’t get a lot done because I was signing most of the night- but that is ok. I had a relaxing time which was so necessary this week.

Why? Why do I do this to myself??? I guess I am a “pleaser” kind of person. There was no one to take over the fundraiser when I presented it in February. So I said “yes”  The Sign Class I have been doing for the past two years. I really enjoy working with the people that seek to learn sign. The people are wonderful and truly seek to communicate with someone different from them.

I did it- I have been working my butt off for several months to make this fundraiser a success and this weekend I got hit in the face. I came down with strep throat. It happens to me usually when I “come down” from my busy-ness… but no it hit me near the end. I feel horrible and really don’t care about the fundraiser at this moment. I just want to get better.

I had my EMG done and man! oh man! That was painful!!! I am waiting for word from the doctor on what is next… but the neurologist said he was 90% sure I had tarsal tunnel syndrome. Still painful.

If this is what 40 is gonna be like- I want a time machine to go back!!!!!

So- here I am 39, a wife of 6 yrs to Bud, a mom to Nathan for the past 5 and just started my 4th yr at KSD. 7 yrs ago this November I was ordained an Elder in the Community of Christ. Don’t get me wrong I am very happily married, and I love being a mom and I love working for KSD and I really am appreciative of my role as an Elder… just titles of me at this point in my life – where I fit in – in this crazy world.

We went to church today, and the youth were in charge of the service… I love those, but I was thinking- when Nathan gets old enough to be a part of it, I will be 50! I was a youth minister before and I always thought I would be but I did take a break from it a few years back. Yes, I miss camps and hanging out with the teenagers, but I did need to shift my life to my married life, if you ask my husband he probably won’t tell you that I have- but really compared to my work ethic as a youth minister, I am home more.

Trying to get this fundraiser for KSD planned (only 19 more days!) and this week I begin to teach ASL again. I am studying for National Certification for Sign Language Interpreters, and trying to keep friends- I am away from home, but he is a great dad- he and Nathan have a great Father/Son bond that is unmatched anywhere. He texts me and says “When are you coming home?” , “I’m hungry… what’s for supper” and my favorite “Where’s momma?”  It’s nice to know that you are missed.

Nathan had his first “Lucky Day” at school. I got juice boxes and these fruit snacks- stupid me- he has 18 in his class but I only send 16 snacks… I feel so dumb! Guess not every mom is perfect huh? We get to do it again on the 23rd. I already bought his snacks and have enough.

I love the Fall season! We used to take a family weekend trip every Columbus Day weekend, but since Bud has been out of work we haven’t gone… but we do make a weekend out of the Old Settler’s Parade and Spinach Festival. We go to KSD and eat breakfast and watch the parade, then we drive to Lenexa, to the Spinach Festival for lunch, and then we come home for a nap, then finally we go back to Old Settler’s for dinner. This year though we have to have a detour to the bowling alley because N. registers for his new league and gets to meet his coach, before we head to lunch. So watch for an update next weekend of our family day.

I think it is very important to let your kids know that being a family is being loved, and in sharing in activities together. I took Nathan to the KSD football game this past week. He signed “HEAD-HURT-SIGN LANGUAGE” where those signs came from I don’t know… what was he trying to say… I don’t know? He is definitely his own person. He talked to everyone whether they were hearing or not. Will we go again this week since they have a home game- yes! He loves to be around people- which was part of his baby blessing prayer by my Dad. It was so true!

I have been feeling “lost” lately. I think it is because I have not been writing like I used to. Like I had the time to before. Writing really let’s me get the junk out.

So- for those one or two of you that read my last blog- here is an update and a list of topics I will most likely be blogging about in the future….

#1 Still very happily married to Bud- he is truly my one and only love! He has this incredible Fred Flintstone laugh and when he does it- my heart melts. He has a saying “Honey want…Honey gets” that drives me absolutely crazy- but you know what… he is and always will be my husband.

#2 Our son- is now a Kindergartener… he is so grown up now. He reads and writes and he has only been in Kindergarten 2 weeks! He is a computer lover like his Daddy (and a little of his Mommy). He is an avid bowler and will be bowling on a fall league without bumpers! He even has his own bowling ball and bag! I do love being his Momma.

#3 I am working on National Certification as an Interpreter for the Deaf. I have passed my written exam and now I must do a performance and interview portion. In my spare time I am preparing for that and my goal is to complete it next summer. I am a member of R.I.D. www.rid.org (National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) and KAI-RID which is the Kansas affiliate of R.I.D.  Last year I was a member of Iowa’s but I’m not sure if I will join again or not.

#4 I am lead Chairperson for a fundraising event for the Kansas School for the Deaf- called R.A.C.E. check it out at www.ksdeaf.org/race      Come join us on September 25th from 5-10pm.

#5 I teach American Sign Language at KSD as well. We have a community/family class that costs individuals $10.00 per course. I will be teaching it again in the Spring. Fall class starts Sept 9th.

#6  Right now I am facing a lot of pain- in my right leg. It started out as plantaar fascitus and a heel spur but now it runs all the way from my ankle to my knee. I am undergoing several medical tests to determine what it is… so far we are thinking it is some kind of nerve damage- which could or could not be caused by my Type 2 Diabetes.

#7 I love movies- and I love to see them when they come out to the theatres. I am behind on my list currently…

#8 I am a die hard scrapbooker too… we have several books at our house and once a month I meet with ladies at a church in Olathe, KS where we spend the whole night scrapbooking. Twice a year we do an overnight!!!!

#9 I am an ordained Elder in the Community of Christ. I occasionally preach and preside for services and I perform a wedding here and there.

#10 I like to read and I am currently reading “I’ll Scream Later” which is the autobiography of Marlee Matlin. Very interesting reading. My next book is “Outcast” which is the first book in a new Star Wars fiction series.

#11 I am on facebook and twitter.

#12 I am refining my recipe box- so if I find a really good recipe you may find it showing up here.
